Looking for a used 4x4 truck

it can be old, just will haul horses and be abused anyways.

Ford or Chevy? Any years I should stay away from starting in 2006 to 2014

I know carfax are limited in what they tell, but is it worth paying for 60 days of unlimited.
I think there is autocheck but that seems more expensive. Is it worth getting both?

When you take to a mechanic, what should they check and how much should it costs? How much would a compression check cost additionally on top?

What are best sites to look cars.com, autotrader.com etc?

Any advice, I hate buying cars and Carmax might be out of the question.
